Consuming raw fresh fruits and vegetables is key to a good healthy diet. Did you know that according to national dietary guidelines, an adult should have at least 2 fruits and 5 serves of vegetables or pulses per day?
Not everyone is into eating raw food but having it in a juice form makes it easier and tastier. Some believe nutrients are absorbed into our bloodstream faster through liquid rather than eating whole veggies and fruits. Juice gives our digestive system rest from breaking down large pieces and fibres of fruits and vegetables. Also, it is easier to drink many pieces of fruit and veggies in a few seconds than eating the same amount. Although I love fruits and vegetables, I can’t possibly eat this every day. I can only imagine how difficult it would be for those who do not like it. The juice helps pack all those fabulous nutrients just in a glass.
You must be thinking, what about fibers? Our body needs that too. I’ve got you covered, you can incorporate the squeezed-out pulp back into your diet through many other means such as add it to a patty or savoury cookies (I will share the recipe for this soon), or use it to make vegetable stock, etc. When I have a surplus of pulp, I put it in my compost bin to give me nutrient-rich soil for my veggie garden. How good is that? No waste.
Well, back to juicing. Many say juicing can reduce your risk of cancer, strengthen your immune system, detox your body, keep your guts healthy, aid digestion and help you lose weight (obviously, accompanied with regular exercise and other dietary supplements). I say there are many benefits to a healthy juicing, especially when you are tired of eating veggies as is in large quantities.
Why cold press juice?
Cold press juicers extract juice by first crushing and then pressing fruit and vegetables for the highest juice yield. Because they don't produce as much heat, they keep more of the fresh ingredients and nutrients intact. The heat produced by conventional juicers destroys some of the nutrients and vitamins and causes separation with a thick oxidised froth at the top and sediment at the bottom.
Cold-pressed juice can stay fresh in the fridge for 24 to 48 hours.
If you do not have a cold press juicer, you can still make green juice with your regular juicer but drink it immediately to make most of the benefits. Try and use organic fruits and veggies for juicing.
My family and I have been drinking juice pretty much every day for the past two years. So, you see, I have been juicing for a while and in a good amount. Thanks to my cold press juicer that makes juicing a breeze. It allows me to juice fruits, vegetables, and leaves whole. No cutting or chopping required. This saves me a lot of prep time and juicing is done within minutes. If you have any queries related to the recipe or equipment I have used please feel free to drop a line in the comment box.
